Minutes
Welcome. We had outstanding attendance!
Review of past policies for regular season
Do we want any new policies or changes to current policies
for the regular season?
The costs and other rules are still in force.
How do we increase the amount of matches and still divide
weights by ability? With going to eight-man brackets,
we have many brackets that have byes. That only gives two
or three matches for an all day tournament.
With great discussion. We decided a couple things to
increase matches. The use of Advanced, Intermediate,
Beginner is good. . . but the intermediate is not
necessarily a dedicated bracket. If you use intermediate,
use that to fill up the advanced bracket. One good way of
filling the advanced bracket is to use a this hierarchy:
All advanced, 8th Int, 9th Beg, 7th int, 8th beg, 6th int.
7th beg, 5th int, 6th beg, 5th beg. Putting 5 wrestlers in
one 8 man bracket is doing a disservice to the boys.
The use of freestyle and round robin bracketing will
increase the matches.
Tournament are going more to K–9 to make money, for those
tournaments that will be wrestling 90 second rounds, does
the fee go to $12?
Elect or appoint a Details Committee?
Must be on e-mail. This is a smaller committee to help
make decisions during the year.
This group is a self-appointed rule making body. They will
speak for the coaches until the next general committee
meeting.
The 1A-3A committee is:
The 4A-5A is:
Election of chairman of general committee
Two-year term. Keeps the schedule, helps implement policy.
John Allan will hold this for another two years.
Source of Information
The role of
http://www.utahwrestling.org/
Bill Kilpack attended the meeting. He will keep the
schedule and publish results. It is vital that the
tournament hosts get him the results to at least the
advanced brackets results. He will gladly publish those
results. Also, he is calendaring the K–5 tournaments too.
Lets support him. Tournament directors, get him a flier
early.
State Location and Date
There was a proposal for a North and South state division.
Also a proposal for the Northern 1A-3A schools that are in
the North (like Bear River and Logan) to go to the 4A-5A
state tournament. We did not adopt those ideas.
1A-3A
St. George will host the 1A-3A state tournament. It will
be the last weekend in Jan. 06. They will have a two day
tournament with Friday morning regional weight ins.
Vance Casperson at Pine View will be the tournament
director. They have negotiated discounted hotels, prices
for winners. They hope to get done early Saturday.
4A-5A
Orem will host at UVSC. Cole Kelly will be the tournament
director with working with Chris Brown and Cody Sanderson.
John Allan, Johnny Loveless and Craig LaMont will be
involved too. Their tournament will be the first weekend
in Feb, one week after 1A-3A (State drill is the
same week as 1A-3A and 1A-3A have week end high school
regional tournaments). There will have regional weigh ins
on Friday, then pairing that night and a staggered start
time on Saturday. Boys will see a web site to see what
time they have to first come for Saturday.
Both states agreed to the two separate divisions, and
Middle school (5-7) and Jr. high (7-9). 1A-3A worked some
things out with team scoring, but I did not catch what is
was.
For the weights both divisions fiddled with the weights at
the bottom. Here is what the basic weights are and we will
work to finalize what was decided:
Middle: 65, 70, 73, 76, 80, 83, 86, 90, 93, 96, 100, 105,
112, 119, 125, 135, 145, 165, 180, 210, 210+
1A-3A added 60. 4A-5A added 63, 66.
Jr. High division: 75, 80, 85, 90, 93 ,96, 100, 104, 108,
112, 116, 120, 124, 128, 132, 145, 155, 170, 190, 210,
250. 250+
1A-3A wanted to add a 70. 4A-5A was questionable on
eliminating 75.

tournament directors to follow the policies.
State Policies
The state is divided by the 1A-3A and 4A-5A. You must
attend the state division of your high school.
You must be part of the same school's team, feeder
school's team or reasonable recreational team. No super
teams with members clearly outside the high school's
feeder area may score for the team.
The state will be divided into a middle school division
with grades 5-7 and a Jr. High division with grades 7-9.
There will be a team champion for each division. 1A-3A
decided to have different division champions 1A, 2A, 3A.
State seeding goes off of 1) last year's state placing. 2)
Advanced tournament seeds. 3) Season record.
Only top four get seeded at state.
State location is awarded every two years.
The top placer for each team scores.
State weights (with some adjustments in 05)
Middle: 65, 70, 73, 76, 80, 83, 86, 90, 93, 96, 100, 105,

The state tournament director is the enforcer of the
General Committee's policies.
