2006 Greco-Roman State
Championships Analysis
Utah does not offer team trophies at its
freestyle or Greco-Roman state championships. In my
opinion, this is not right. In other states, their
freestyle and Greco-Roman programs take as much pride in
these state championships as any high-school championship,
making up their team t-shirts with the years that they
took state and in which style. Some schools in other
states even list the freestyle and Greco-Roman state
championships right alongside their high-school
championships in the school. It's all a question or
importance and support for wrestling as a whole, not just
this or that particular style or niche. That said, I took
it upon myself to do a little analysis of the results from
the 2005 Greco-Roman State Championships to see just how
one program or another fared. To simplify things, I
allotted six points for a member of one team taking 1st
place, five for 2nd, and so on, to 6th place, which earned
1 point. This does not take into account the size of a
weight class, but it does give an idea of how the clubs
fared on the empirical data available.
