4A/5A Junior High State Championships
General Guidelines
-
These are not "rules," because there is no Board and other
governing association
-
Guidelines were just agreed upon by coaches in attendance
at meetings
-
Do we want to create a formal organization?
-
Liability is a key factor
-
Do coaches/programs have insurance and/or liability
coverage?
-
If not, the school may say that you cannot use their
facility
-
AAU Wrestling Utah and USA Wrestling-Utah can both provide
this protection, although both would require membership
cards for the athletes and coaches
-
Individualized insurance can handle liability for $3–$6
per athlete, but this does not provide secondary insurance
for the athlete and athlete's family
-
Different schools and school districts treat wrestling
differently
-
Setting up by-laws and a governing organization can make
things established, so it's not controlled by the dominant
teams at that time in the state
-
Sanctioning tournaments through the governing body would
create standardization
-
Participating in non-sanctioned tournaments would
undermine the governing body
-
Enforcing rules
-
Organizing would help them be enforced equally
-
Would help people know what to expect at each tournament
in terms of weight classes, age divisions, etc.
-
We've outgrown the "gentleman's agreement" structure that
has been in place
-
Originally thought that this would be a 4A/5A
organization, due to distance in travel, etc., but there
is enough cross-participation that it was determined that
it should be a statewide organization
-
Insurance
-
Want to look at AAU Wrestling Utah, Individualized
Policies and USA Wrestling-Utah
-
Want to look at the options available with each
-
Address the organization, the insurance and the structure
-
Committee Formed
