"Wickel Not an All-Star?"

I reviewed the All Star Dual selection. I was disappointed to see one wrestler is missing from the list. Dakota Wickel, 220 weight class from Clearfield, did not make the list. I am curious if he received consideration?

Dakota is currently dominating his weight class (16 wins & 1 loss 2013-2014) and his only loss this year was 6-5 loss to Micah Ngaturvai (All Star Selection for 4A heavy weight) where Dakota was giving up 25 pounds and took him down with less than 5 seconds to go but did not get the points since the ref did not think he had long enough control. Wins have include pins over John Leilua & Zach Hansen who are in the new 4A ranking. Dakota did not participate in the State Championship last season because he had to have surgery on his fracture shoulder. He still had a decent season his Junior year with a injured shoulder most of the season and still won Region 6 after he had recently fracture his shoulder (he wanted to participate in the state tournament but physician recommended against it). He placed in his sophomore year.

I know being the father of Dakota gives me some bias but I was curious what the criteria was for a wrestler to be consider and if Dakota was considered? And if he wasn't why?

I would appreciate any feedback if possible or for you to lead me to someone who might be able to.

Thank you,
Rlynn Wickel

Editor's Response

I can't say much about the process. There is a process in place, where a committee makes choices, and I know that the Layton Invitational and Viewmont Invitational are looked at in particular for selections. But more than that, I don't know. The head of the All-Star Dual is Ross Brunson, but I do not feel comfortable giving out his phone number without his permission.

Ross is an assistant coach at Jordan High School, if that can help you try to make contact.

I don't know why he wasn't the alternate, but the 4A rep is Colton Grossaint who is a returning state champion so that's pretty hard to beat.
