"Freestyle Bracketing Question"
Hi Bill,
I was wondering how it is determined which kid gets
put in which bracket (if there is two). And how
is it determined who gets the bye first?

Random draw. The computer generates
numbers for each competitor (just like you used to draw
out of a bowl) and assigns them. If there is more than one
bracket and you have people from the same team in that
weight, then those on the same team will be in separate
brackets. At state, if there are wrestlers who have
been taking the top places each weekend and they end up in
the same side of the bracket, then the pairing room will
separate those wrestlers, also.
As far as the bye, it's always the person
on the bottom of the list that gets it first round. (And
the random draw number determines who is on the bottom.)
