Utah Valley State Falls to South Dakota State
by Brent Johnson
Brookings, S.D. — Despite coming out with a better effort
than the night before, the Utah Valley State wrestling
team (3-7, 0-3 Western Wrestling Conference) fell, 34-6 to
South Dakota State.
"We weren't as flat-footed tonight as we were last night,"
head coach Greg Williams said. "But, we are still making
the same mistakes at the end of periods that are costing
us the close matches."
After forfeiting its first two matches due to injuries,
Utah Valley and South Dakota State fought in several close
early matches. Each of the first five matches were
decisions decided by two points or fewer. Justin
Rawle was the sole winner in the first five closely
contested matches.
"We had a lot of close matches," Williams said. "We have
to start winning the close ones. Our inexperience is
showing, especially at the end of periods when we lose a
lot of points."
After a major decision loss, UV's Eric McAllister came up
with the best performance of the night for the Wolverines,
a 10-4 decision win over Chris Moran.
"Eric McAllister wrestled well tonight," Williams said.
"He had our best performance of the night."
The Wolverines will try to get back to their winning ways
when they travel to Gunnison, Colo. to compete in the
Tracy Borah Duals next weekend.
