Buff Grapplers Lose Region Duals
by Nick Drake
Tooele High dropped
a pair of Region 11 duels to region rivals Ogden (Dec. 8)
and Bear River (Thursday) to open the 2005-06 campaign.
The Tigers handed
the Buffs a 48-28 setback Dec. 8, while the Bears tripped
Tooele 50-26 last Thursday at THS.
The Buffs also
finished 4-6 in the Juab Invitational Dec. 9-10. Tooele
reeled off two victories to open the dual-based tourney
and closed out with a pair of wins as well. The Buff
dropped six consecutive matches in between the two opening
and two closing decisions. Results on the tournament were
not available by press time.
Tooele now takes
time off for the Christmas break. The Buffs resume action
when Tooele hosts the Best of the West Wrestling
Invitational at the Deseret Peak Jan. 6-7.
Tooele Coach Codie
Miller said his team will need to improve to move up in
the Region 11 standings.
"We're a young
team," he said. "We have some pretty good talent, but
we're inexperienced and young. We should be in the mix at
region. Ogden and Bear River are tough. We did pretty good
during the (Juab) tournament. We probably could have won a
couple more matches because we gave away too many points.
We had four or five different matches in a couple of duels
where we were winning and then were pinned. So we have
some work to do in the wrestling room, knowing how to
finish a match when you're ahead. It also hurt us against
Ogden. We just have to get better and learn from our
mistakes."
