Cody Hone
Cedar City High School, 125 lbs.

School Classification: 3A

Cody Hone

Cody is a talented kid with great mat skills that have taken him a long way in wrestling.  He has been in the state finals every year, finally winning that elusive title last year, when he obliterated everyone who stepped on the mat with him, including the 15-0 destruction of Wasatch's freshman standout Jake Fassold, and the second-round pin of Juab's Tanner Linton in the finals.  His sophomore year, he pinned every opponent to make it to the finals before falling to Uintah stud Colby Christensen.  That was actually a rematch for the state championship because, as a freshman, Cody lost to Christensen in the finals, as well.  But his junior-year state tournament may not really describe the level that he has risen to as a competitor.  At the 2010 Rocky Mountain Rumble, he won the tournament in high fashion, dismantling Payson's Tito Ortiz in the finals 10-0.  But that came after an equally impressive 8-1 win over Payson's Zac Loveless in the semis, and beating Davis' Brett Naylor 5-2 in the quarters.  (This was a payback match, after Naylor beat Hone at the All-Star Duals 7-5.)  He's been a UtahWrestling.org Wrestler of the Year each year of his high-school career, but it appears that he was saving the best for last, really stepping up his junior year and finishing with a record of 42-3.  I think that will continue in his senior year, where he will round out four years in the state finals and winning his second state title in even more dominant fashion and (dare I say it?) an unblemished records in 2010–2011.

2010 State Champion (125 lbs.).  2009 2nd in State (119 lbs.).  2008 2nd in State as a freshman (112 lbs.).  Career Interscholastic Record: 129-17.  2009–2010 Record: 42-3.  2008–2009 Record: 45-5.  2007–2008 Record: 42-9.
