Taylorsville's Ruiz Fails in World
Wrestling Medal Bid
Taylorsville's Justin Ruiz fell short of
winning a Greco-Roman medal at the World Wrestling
Championships for the second straight year Tuesday.
The loss kept him from clinching a
position for the United States in his 211.5-pound weight
class at the Beijing Games in China next summer.
The Americans have three more events at
which they can do so, however.
The 2005 world bronze medalist, Ruiz lost
a second-round decision to Georgia's Ramaz Nozadze, the
silver medalist at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Ruiz had a chance to "wrestle back" for a
bronze medal once Nozadze reached the finals in Baku,
Azerbaijan, but he lost to Marek Svec of the Czech
Republic and finished out of the top eight needed to
ensure the U.S. a position in his weight class at the
Beijing Games.
