Prep Wrestling: Wasatch Stars Heading
to College
by Chhun Sun
A big reason why the Wasatch Wasps have
been so dominant in wrestling is because they regularly
produce some of the state's best grapplers.
And having four of them sign to some of
the country's best wrestling schools contributes to the
reputation.
After helping their Wasps to sixth
consecutive Class 3A state championship, Blake Mangum
(Oklahoma), Jake Salazar (Michigan), Ethan Smith (Purdue)
and Cole Shafer (Iowa State) signed letters of intent to
their respective colleges Monday afternoon.
"It just adds to the tradition that we
already have at Wasatch," Salazar said. "We have wonderful
coaching to get us to the next level."
Salazar and Smith will serve LDS missions
before wrestling for their respective schools.
