Drury Wins U.S. Open U20 Nationals

LAS VEGAS — Utah Valley University second-year freshman Haiden Drury won U.S. Open U20 Nationals on Wednesday at 63 kg while competing for the Brunson UVRTC in Greco-Roman competition in Las Vegas.

The 2022 NCAA qualifier for the Wolverines went a perfect 5-0 on Wednesday en route to winning the U20 National Title. Drury dominated in his weight class all day long, as he combined to outscore his opponents by an impressive tally of 38-1.

By winning the U20 U.S. Nationals, Drury has qualified to compete at the 2022 Pan American U20 Championships that will be held July 8-10 in Oaxtepec, Mexico. He also the winner of the upcoming World Trials tournament (June 3-5) to wrestle a best of three series to earn a spot on this year's World Team.

After leading UVU during the 2021-22 collegiate season with a 20-8 record and also posting a fifth-place Big 12 Championship finish and his first trip to the NCAA Championships, Drury then continued his stellar wrestling by winning the U.S. Open U20 Nationals on Wednesday. Drury opened his Greco-Roman tournament run with an 8-0 victory over Kannon Dunbar of Maui Tiger Style Wrestling. He then followed that up with a 9-0 win over Dominic Hargrove of Betterman Elite Wrestling to move to the quarterfinals. Drury then made quick work of his opponent in the quarters with a 8-0 win over Gunnar Hamre of Combat WC School of Wrestling to advance to the semifinals. He then picked up a 7-1 victory over Carter Stephenson of Colorado in the semis followed by a 6-0 shutout over Colton Parduhn of Interior Grappling Academy to win the 63-kg U20 weight class.
